Get Ready to Mix

Conveniently, we only need your sequencer’s session files to get started. It’s pretty easy to send us your session; just follow the steps below. Any questions, we are here for you.

I. A GREAT MIX STARTS WITH A GREAT RECORDING.
RECORD all tracks at 24 or 32-bit bit depth. Sample rate should be 48k or 96k for theatrical release, or 44.1k or 88.2k for CD release.

LEVELS.  Aim for AVERAGE recording levels no higher than -22dBFS to -18dBFS. Be sure no track peaks higher than -3dBFS at any point.

STORE all tracks as WAV or AIFF files – no MP3s or other compressed formats. Avoid sample rate conversions always!

LISTEN FOR NOISE AND DISTORTION and avoid compression! Keep your levels MODEST with tons of headroom so we can get you the mix you want.

II. PREPARE YOUR AUDIO TRACKS
WE ACCEPT ALL SEQUENCER SESSIONS MAC/PC. No need to make audio exports or do any extra steps. Just send us your entire project folder. However, your session MUST be organized so we can easily understand it. Alternatively, we also accept exported WAV/AIFF files instead of session files.

REMEMBER, MIXING IS NOT PRODUCTION. Your recordings should be clean and tight, with drum sounds and guitar tones dialed in, before sending it for mixing.

TIDY UP THE SESSION. Label all tracks with SHORT SIMPLE NAMES. Remove unneeded tracks. Remove unneeded audio segments. Name alternate takes as such. Simplify routings, etc.

BOUNCE/PRINT ALL VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS. Give us both the audio bounce and the MIDI track for each virtual instrument.

PRINT PROPRIETARY PLUGINS. You can leave stock plugins and all Waves plugins (no need to print).

BE EXTRA CLEAR in labeling tracks and getting the session organized. YOU are familiar with your sequence, but WE are seeing it for the first time. Missing/wrong/unclear tracks kill our vibe, and waste your time and money.

III. AND FINALLY.
Please include with your session your BEST ROUGH MIX of each tune. Tell us what you like (and don’t like) about it.

Also provide us 2-3 commercial songs as REFERENCES and tell us what you like about each. This really helps us get closer to your vision!

ZIP UP ALL FILES. Be sure all (only) required files are included.

POST YOUR ARCHIVE TO A CLOUD SERVICE (Gdrive, icloud, yousendit.com) and send us a link. Or send us a thumbdrive/CD/DVD.

EXAMPLE OF A PERFECT SESSION
A Gdrive folder with a ZIP file made up of 1. your sequencer’s project folder, and 2. your rough mix(es). You’ve triple-checked that all tracks are present and none are missing. All guitar, drum, etc. tones are dialed in and it’s easy to understand your session organization.

ADDITIONAL (HOURLY) CHARGES will incur for “PRODUCTION” tasks, things like session organization, excessive tuning or time stretching, musical arranging, etc. and billed as “EXTRA SERVICES.”

WE CAN ALSO MIX FROM STEMS.
If you prefer to keep your own instrument balances, you can give us stems (group track exports) instead of individual tracks. It’s the same fee for us to mix from stems, but it allows you to retain control over your balances. Just know that mixing from stems gives us less control over the finished mix. Typically we get 10-20 stem files. Each should be 24-bit or 32-bit STEREO tracks. SEND AS MANY STEREO STEMS AS YOU LIKE. Examples:

SUB (urban/EDM only)
